Dr. Thilan Walgamage has lived and worked in different countries like Canada, Oman, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan before calling Australia home. He has many years of experience in Skin Cancer Practice. His expertise in the advanced surgical treatment of skin cancers is gained through his extensive training and working over a decade as a General, Plastic, and Cardiothoracic Surgeon. He performs skin cancer screening and specialised treatment for skin cancers and cosmetic procedures. His expertise involves topical treatments for skin cancers, cryotherapy and Cryopen treatment, Electrocautatry surgeries, surgical excisions of simple and complex surgeries, which involve Skin Grafts, Flap repairs, and reconstructive surgeries of the nose, ears and eyelids. Dr. Walgamage also performs cosmetic procedures and injectable anti-wrinkle treatments.
Over the years, Dr. Walgamage has gained extensive skills and knowledge in his career. He obtained MBBS in 2003, MD Canada in 2011, MRCS 1 (Eng) in 2008, Diploma in Family Medicine (UK) in 2006, Diploma in Child Health (University of Sydney) in 2017, and FRACGP in 2018. After he moved to Australia, Dr. Walgamage underwent up-skilling in skin cancer management. As a result, he has obtained a Diploma in Skin Cancer Surgery, a Certificate in Dermoscopy, Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine and Certificate in Aesthetic (Cosmetic) Medicine.
Dr. Walgamage is highly respected within the medical profession, He has many publications and presented at many international conferences. He is liaising closely with Dermatologists, Plastic Surgeons, and Oncology units to provide the best possible care to his patients. He is a lecturer at Australian National University (ANU) and a Medical Educator and Supervisor for general practitioner (GP) registrars. Apart from work he loves traveling and exploring different countries and plays competitive cricket for the local cricket club.
