Your doctors among local health professional heroes called on to save a baby gorilla
On Saturday 21 October 2022, a first-time mother gorilla ‘Kipenzi’ at Mogo Zoo, birthed a beautiful baby male gorilla. Unfortunately, there were some unforeseen complications with the mother and baby. Various local neonatal health professionals and local vets were called upon to help save the baby gorilla. Also involved was paediatrician Caroline Stewart from Bega, who provided life-saving advice via video link.

Lifting weights once a week linked to reduced risk of premature death – new study
It is well known that aerobic exercise, such as running and cycling, can help you live longer, but less has been known about the effect of lifting weights on longevity. Now, results from a new study suggest that adding weightlifting to your exercise regime, even in later life, is a sensible thing to do if you want to avoid an early death.

The study, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, aimed to find out if lifting weights was linked to a lower risk of death from any cause, either on its own or alongside moderate to vigorous exercise.

Smoking Ceremony and Cultural Burn at our new Hospital site, a first in NSW
On Thursday, September 8 2022, a traditional smoking ceremony and cultural burn, along with ceremonial dances took place at the site of the new $260 million Eurobodalla Regional Hospital in Moruya. It was a historic moment, as it was the first time that a ceremony of this nature has taken place on a NSW hospital project site.
